The Grey Cycle Tour aims to raise funds for Touch Africa. Touch Africa is a registered Section 21 (2007/024885/08) and NPO (75773) organization in South Africa. It is also a registered UK Charity, “School Aid 4 Africa” trading as Touch Africa (1137365).
The mission of the charity is to restore the dignity of children by “making school a better place”. This is achieved by rehabilitating schools and initiating self-sustaining projects. Touch Africa is committed to social Entrepreneurship and ensuring that the youth of South Africa have the opportunity to receive an education, which will allow them to become economically viable.
We are planning a 1000km cycle tour that will take a team of 16 cyclists from Grey High School in Port Elizabeth to the Western Cape, returning along the Garden Route. The route will include Montagu, Barrydale, Oudtshoorn, George, Plettenberg Bay, Storms River and Jeffrey’s Bay.
We feel that this tour is an excellent opportunity for young people, as well as members of the tourism industry, to join forces and to make a positive contribution to addressing critical problems in our community.
Touch Africa Rehabilitation is a registered NPO 77573 (Non-Profit Organisation) and Section 21 registered company 212007/024885/08.
Their core business is to uplift schools in impoverished/under-privileged areas throughout South Africa, with particular emphasis on rural schools in the Eastern Cape/Transkei, which is the most impoverished province in the country. Our main focus is on Junior Secondary schools for children between the ages of 2 – 18, with foundation phase classes being of major importance.
Their objectives are to:
• Improve community morale and hope
• Enhance the education of children
• Rehabilitate school infrastructure in previously disadvantaged areas with particular emphasis on rural schools
• restore the dignity of children
• enable self-sustaining projects
Touch Africa is excited to announce that the new classroom at Mgothwane School near Willowvale is complete. 35 Grade 6 children will now move out of their old Mudhut classroom to this brand new classroom.
This was made possible by the physical feats of our tough grey boys
who cycled from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. The R60 000 raised
built this new Grade 6 Classroom using local labour.
The scholars and teachers are all excited as they now do not have
to be squashed up in other classrooms; there is no better way to
end the 2012 school year. The kids are more than motivated to
start the New Year a fresh – all thanks to your contribution!
We need to now kit out the classroom with desks and chairs,
blackboards etc. We have received some financial support from
Abercorn School in the UK which will make all this possible. We are
still considering doing a MTB ride to the school for the final
handover. This will hopefully be planned for January 2013.
Once again thank you for truly making a difference for Moses and
the wonderful children of Mgothwane.
